Here is the editable paint file.

http://www.lzracing.com/LZRacing_MP4_Edit_File_2013.xcf (http://www.lzracing.com/LZRacing_MP4_Edit_File_2013.xcf)
(Right click -> "Save Link As" or Download etc)

You will need/want Gimp to edit it (it is free)

Colors should be orange and white with brown trim.  :P

But seriously, for club purposes we have used alot of black/white/red/blue which I think would look really good with the right scheme.

This is just my first suggestion. I'm sure I will come up with more ideas as I think about it.

Black white red and blue sound like the proper colours.  Now we need someone who can sketch up a logo or we ask a painter to sketch it up.

Here are my primary school contributions to the possible style of the logo.  I SUCK at art.

I put these together using CAD and paint. Unfortunately I do not have proper "design" programs so they don't look the greatest but you get the idea.

You can take this image to paint and play around with colors if you like.

I already have some more ideas, but I need to get some work done right now. :o

Looking good. I really like when we had the flags on our site logo and fit perfectly into a car paint.

But um, let's not go too red, white and blue. You know I like France and all but...

My next step is to add the flags over the lower case letters.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: Clipless72 on Thu Apr, 11 @ 01:32 PM (pacific)
My next three steps will be

1 - fill in the logo with some finger paints
2 - use my BIG crayons for more colour
3- Spirograph accents

Nice work fellas! I suck worse than Clip when it come to art so hence the lack of contribution on my part!
I happen to like this second variation very much Jeremy.

I'll play around a little with some computer art and see if I can contribute any to this design.

This is exciting!!  ;D

I'm really liking the evolution of the design, nice work!

I've been trying out different combinations of the "colors' for LZ Racing using the standard paint options in iracing. So, this is what I came up with.
What you think?

Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Thu Apr, 25 @ 02:53 PM (pacific)
JC - I really like #4. It just looks the best to my eyes. I guess to get one of the above logos on that scheme we need to move to tradingpaints? I got some sarcasm thrown at me to  generate some colors - ah - that ain't happening. I paid someone to create my paints on my F1 and helmet! We need to get this rolling so we can sport the LZ colors when we race. I can get my painter to take this #4 idea and the logo and create the F1 look and I will run with that this season. (Unless, you guys still need to needle me more before I can be proud and represent. :-[)
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: racecar73 on Thu Apr, 25 @ 03:26 PM (pacific)
Thank you Scot for a little feedback. :D

I have been waiting for someone to say something!!

Can you post a pic of your F1 paint? I haven't seen it.

I am still working on putting some color to some of those. The coloring is very time consuming, hopefully I can get another one done soon.

Maybe design #1 on the rear quarter and design #4 on the hood?

What do you guys think?

I can always keep trying!
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Fri Apr, 26 @ 05:33 AM (pacific)
I was referring to JCs design #4 as a nice car color setup. As far as logos go - Design #2 with color looks good and I would change the LZ character color to match the red in the flags or pick the lazy color of yellow. My current F1 paints are up on tradingpaints, if your want to search my name. I did not have a handy copy of my F1 to post here as I am at work. My color scheme is yellow and black with a puma and fanatec logo and a "Dirty F30s" logo with peanuts character Pig-Pen.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: racecar73 on Fri Apr, 26 @ 06:48 AM (pacific)
Haha- wasn't talking to me, lol!  :-[

As far as what Coop posted I like 2 and 4. Or something similar depending on what the painter comes up with.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: racecar73 on Fri Apr, 26 @ 06:58 AM (pacific)
Been coloring these 2 the last couple days when I get a little break in work. I need a better program for coloring these.

And I agree that the red will all be the same through the flags and logo. But getting it to match perfectly with paint is a pain in the arse. I am figuring the painter will match them up.

I do not like rotated flags. Just not pleasing to my eyes. I like previous #4, with the circle and proper flags!
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: racecar73 on Fri Apr, 26 @ 11:11 AM (pacific)
Reworked this one, I think I like this a bit better. Matched the reds a bit better.

What do you guys think?
Putting all 4 colors on the logo is a bit much maybe.

I will mess with the coloring on that one also.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Fri Apr, 26 @ 01:10 PM (pacific)
If you are going to go with this logo.....
1. The Canada flag red is different.
2. I would remove the small separator line between the LZ and the flags.
3. and....well...rotate the flags.... ;D
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread

Right, rotate the US flag 90 deg counter clockwise and the Canukunian one, 90 deg clockwise.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: racecar73 on Sat Apr, 27 @ 08:39 AM (pacific)
Just depends on your monitor. I did that one at work and had the reds matched pretty good.

Now I come home and look at it and its definitely different. But as I said, that will be on the painter to match all those reds up and make it look right.

I'm just trying to get ideas out there.

If you all are game, I will hire Tim Brokaw, www.digigrafet.com, to put together a MP4 with our logo, names, unique side view mirrors, and colors. Yeah, I am paying for it.  I will put us on Tim's queue with some interest. He is just the first guy I contacted. I tried to contact my painter of the F1 - but it looks like he not responding to my emails. Let me know - my slippers are soft but no need to step on any painter's toes if someone here is inclined to do the job.

If I like the paint job your painter fella draws up I'll happily cough up some dough to cover the cost. :)
As for color combinations, I like the one where the doors are white. I think that'll present the LZ logo nicely on the car.

Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Mon Apr, 29 @ 06:37 AM (pacific)
I was going to leave the design up to the painter. We will all be able to review and make comments as the process proceeds. He takes no money till we are happy and the TGA file is done. There looks to be some differences in iRacing's car painting. But prior to this iRacing release, other drivers in a race would have to have your paints downloaded from tradingpaints in order to see them. Some of you may feel this is a pain. ? It is what everyone does in F1 series but I am not to sure about all the other iRacing series. Once you have tradingpaints installed you can click MP4 cars to have them downloaded, the new ones that is, to your computer. You can do this on power up or like me whenever you decide to get the latest car paints. I do it about once a month or so. The is nice as your name can be on the car as well as any logo, text, whatever.

I sent the PM to Tim. My name will appear on the web site as "queued" up. AS he starts working on the car you will see pictures of it on Tim's site. We will get unique designs for each in that your name placement and specific details of coloring will change. Think about what name you wish to use. For me it will be "SCROWNER". But it can be anything you wish.

Really glad you are getting this going Scot.

I would like something like this over the rear quarter/ back of the door.

And one of the logos on the hood. I personally like this one-

It is really funny because those reds look good on this monitor. But the painter should be able to fix them up regardless.

The painter may also come up with a much better design. I only have very basic programs to generate these.

Also, I have the newest version of trading paints which automatically loads any custom paint of any car in any room I am in.

I also need  a link to Tim's site so we can check up on his progress.

1. Everyone think of what name you wish tagged on the car that uniquely identifies you. Then decide on the car location. For this car, MP4, I am thinking on the rear bumper and on the top of the wing. But look at the MP4 on Tom's site to see if you think of a better spot. Rear bumper is good as it pisses those off behind you. Top of wing is good as it is easy to see in a replay it is you. If you have a favorite color let me know and we can use this color on the side-view mirrors for an additional car separator.

Scot - SCROWNER
Alex - A. Tabony
Jeremy - J. Wagner
Randy - R. Cherry
Johnathon - Jon Cooper

2. Are there any national logos you wish to see? These would appear on all the MP4s for our team but there may be some desirable names. For me I like Rays Engineering (Volk), Falken, Puma and Fanatec. It would be cool to have something from each of us tagged on the body. It could be La-Z-Boy! Or we can keep the slate clean. I would prefer some advertising but I will defer to the crowd on this one.

3. I think we are all on board with the two logos Jeremy sneezed on the screen? LZ and flags on the hood and LZRacing on each side of the car. I will indicate to Tom he can embellish them a bit.

4. Color scheme. Some of you may wish to be specific. I suggest we wait and see what Tom does with our LZ logos and then colors for the car.

A. Tabony
Personally, I prefer it under the side window like on old school race cars. But it certainly does make sense to have it on the back...

2. Are there any national logos you wish to see?
I prefer clean. LZRacing of course but no real life sponsors. Maybe we can make up our own silly ones?

3. I think we are all on board with the two logos Jeremy sneezed on the screen? LZ and flags on the hood and LZRacing on each side of the car. I will indicate to Tom he can embellish them a bit.
Sounds good to me.

Fine by me. But as I said not overtly US colors please.

J. Wagner    I also like it under the window old school, but on the wing may be cool. Race number is 73. Always!!

Plain may look cool, will depend on the paint design. If we are going to do sponsors, I prefer sim racing products opposed to real life racing sponsors. (Playseat, Logitech, Fanatech, etc)

3. I think we are all on board with the two logos Jeremy sneezed on the screen? LZ and flags on the hood and LZRacing on each side of the car. I will indicate to Tom he can embellish them a bit.

I figured we would defer to the painter. Would like a more white car with colors being accents. I am sure he will come up with something nice.

1.  R. Cherry window or wing works for me,  race number 72

2.  I like beer sponsors like"Beau's Lug Tread", its Canadian. Or more obscure beers but not the big ones.

3 logos are good.

4.  Red accents for me please.  A Canadian flag on my mirror would be fun.

I'm late to the party! Sorry, I hope there is still time for my input.

1: Jon Cooper or J. Cooper on the door just under the window (I like it old school too) and the wing and bumper works for me too!

2: I like the sim racing sponsors also. I'd also like something quirky too or made up. I'm pretty flexible in this area.

3: Logos are DAMN GOOD!

4: Canadian flag on the roof would be nice, in the same fashion of the General Lee of Dukes of Hazzard, if that's possible to do. Alternately, a small flag on the rear bumper or rear quarter panel, or next to my name on the door, is just fine. As for colors, red + white + blue seem like good choices to me. White doors for sure to showcase the LZ Racing Logo! As a unique identifier on my car I'd like black side mirrors if possible.

Can't wait to see the results!

So we are all on the same page.

We are all getting the same car with a couple personal touches to each one.

I am willing to let the painter do his thing and see how it turns out. He should know what looks good.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Thu May, 2 @ 06:26 AM (pacific)
I kind of like the beer concept for the small logos on the car. If each of us can pick an obscure beer we like, we can add its logo to the paint details for the cars. So that is 5 beer logos that the painter will work with. It really is a decent idea Clip started. If others are OK with this idea the list is:

(C) R. Cherry: Beau's Lug Tread
(U) SCROWNER: Maui Brewing Co.
(S) A. Tabony: Drake's Brewing Co.
(U) J. Wagner: Hoppin' Frog
(C) J. Cooper: Little Apple Brewing Co.

Each one of you need to find the brew logo graphic you wish to use and email it to me. scrowner AT gmail DOT com. To be clear, all of these logos will appear on all 5 cars. I attached a JPG of my logo to hit the car. (The hog in Canadian red would be sweet!)

Additionally.... I made note of placing the flag for the racer near his name. If you can take note of the list above and verify name and flag as correct.

Sweet flag! WTH? Sealand.....Alex.....I can attached this flag to your car....are you sure? Sorry, still trying to figure everyone's humor.

Assuming I have everything correct, with Alex's flag and the beer logos, I will send this final piece of information to Tim.

Remember, the flags and the name are the only thing unique on each car paint scheme. Not sure what else may be unique on each individual car. But, to me, that is the whole idea to having a team car - that is keeping the car recognizable as LZRacing. Other details may get pushed when we see the design.

This is from Tim the artist and I did ask about throwing $ his way:

On average I finish 2 cars a week, Friday I was out attending a wedding but I still finished 2 cars in the 4 days that I worked on those so I was pretty happy about it, I've had to return to a previous request after a long wait and not hearing anything back from the customer, I dropped the ball and missed an email he sent me and painted the car completely wrong so that has delayed things a bit and I can only blame myself for that.

The good news is that 5 of the cars in line ahead of yours are liveries I've done on several other cars for those teams so that should help speed things along since I know exactly what I need to do for those.

Sorry but I've always operated on a first come first serve basis because I think that's the fairest way to go about it. If my time frame doesn't suit your needs I won't have any hard feelings if you decide to go with another painter, that is your right. If you decide to do so please just give me a heads up and I will remove the request from the queue.

Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.

I sent Tim and email telling him we are excited that he is working on our MP4 design and I got back:

yep what I'm doing right now is looking at some Troy Lee Design Helmets, based on that I'm making a large Decal pack that will serve as the base paint, once I have something on the car I will send pics for you to look at.

"Tory Lee Design Helmets" - I have no idea what that is.

Looks pretty cool to me. It is more wind-swept, tiger striped than I was imagining. I has something more angular and geometric but apparently no one can read my mind.

The swept lines are in contrast to the LZR on front and side. That is fine by me, since I think they stand out more than they would.

There is a fair amount of detail when looking close in iRacing. I sent the TGA file to Jon who should pass it on to each of you. Yeah - it has my name - wrong by the way - but he will make a car for each of us. When, if, you get the file from Jon, change the file name to your customer id on iRacing followed by ".tga"and copy it into the correct paint folder on your racing computer. Then head on into the centripital track with the MP4 and due some figure 8s to check out the design in detail through a replay. Send me an email - scrowner AT gmail DOT com - or post here your thoughts on what Tim should modify.

I already asked Tim to move the name and flag to be above the door window on each side of the car. I thought the current location was too busy to be noticed.

It would be good if each of you let me know your toughts by COB Tuesday.

Uh, what happened to the tiger stripes?

It is terribly, uh, patriotic and I mean French when I say that.

Actually isn't this completely different than the models shown before?
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: coopinwpg on Mon Jun, 10 @ 11:22 PM (pacific)
Scotty, thanks for sending me the file! I'm going to give it a go right away to see how it looks in the sim!!
The pictures you posted look pretty damn cool actually. Very country pride french indeed Alex, but awesome non the less! I'm super pumped that we've got this to work from!!

I do like the pattern, but my choice would be to reduce the amount of red and blue and increase the white. The Red and Blue, in my opinion, should be used in a way to accent the car's main color, white. Not sure if you all agree with me or not, so tell us what you think! I sorta liked the tiger stripping of the earlier shared pic and would like to see how that would look with all the colors included.

I like the idea of moving the driver name and flag to under the side windows, I find the current location to be too far forward. Good idea!

Now, for me to share this paint, I need your emails fellas. Please message me at jcooper95 at shaw DOT ca. And I'll send it your way asap!
Scot, do you know how soon Tim can make changes to the skin?

"hand rub" "hand rub" hand rub"...  ;D

I was thinking the same thing with the color scheme - too much red and blue and what happened to the tiger stripes. He is activly make our changes. So give me your requests.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: Clipless72 on Tue Jun, 11 @ 05:18 AM (pacific)
I would have to agree with Jon and Alex on this one.  I was thinking a little more white myself.  It does look better with colour then the greys though.

I should have probably commented before.

Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Tue Jun, 11 @ 05:21 AM (pacific)
What I have told Tim this morning:

1. The name should be UNDER the door window.

2. What happened to the tiger stripes? The white/grey tiger stripes you did was beautiful. The guys are saying less Blue and Red and use mostly white with nice tiger stripe accents of Blue and Red. Not sure if this is coming across well.

3. Beer Logos - make the background color in the beer logos just clear - no color. I think they will look less like just plopped down on the paint and also you may have success in grouping them together.

Keep it coming....

How about this BASE scheme?
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: coopinwpg on Tue Jun, 11 @ 02:51 PM (pacific)
I am liking the direction, but I think too much red and blue have been removed. I think there needs to be more solid color.
Also I'd like to see the grey removed.
That's my 2 cents.  :)
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Tue Jun, 11 @ 03:17 PM (pacific)
I just want to point out that we had a bunch of red and blue in last design and  some were indicating what happened to the tiger stripes. I asked him the whiten up the grey areas for you Jon. I actually like the design I last posted above but I am not sure how it will look will all the logos.

Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Thu Jun, 13 @ 06:05 AM (pacific)
I am hoping everyone can get back to me today with a thumbs up on this list to ask the painter:

1. Remove the GREY in the design. Convert any grey to white.
2. Add black pin striping to edge the color transitions.
3. Move the flag and name to be centered under the window.

4. Jon wanted to make the color stripes more bold. He crudely edited the current design indicating his ideas. It is attached. Let me knos what you think.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: racecar73 on Thu Jun, 13 @ 07:23 AM (pacific)
I don't know if we need more bold colors with adding a little black. The black should give it more "pop" that we are looking for.

Everything else you mentioned looks good.

So probably less grey and some black "highlights".

Yeah I like it much better.  The ONLY other thing I don't like is the name and flag.  Maybe we can ask him to try it on the rear window with the flag above the name?  If nobody minds the current location I can live with it.

I think I was the one who mentioned having it under the windows, so I was just going to let it pass. But honestly it doesn't make any functional sense there. When there is a bunch of us running together with the same paint, it will be much better to have the name on the back. That way you know if you are hitting the right person... :)

I don't know how many times we can go back to the painter and ask for changes - but if you have suggestions/changes I think it is (close to) time to speak up or forever hold your peace :)

Personally I am fine as-is. But then again I am the one with the questionably pained car for the past year.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Tue Jun, 18 @ 05:40 AM (pacific)
:o I sent everyone what I thought was the final file last night - but - Jon indicated the door names were screwed. However, Alex's door name is fine so Alex should be good with the TGA.  Tim is making this change and is sending me GIMP files to allow the team to edit names for the new guys that become part of LZRacing.
Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: scrowner on Tue Jun, 18 @ 03:37 PM (pacific)
;D Everyone should have the FINAL paint for their car. To be clear - in order for everyone in a race you run to see YOUR LZ paints you will need to use the tradingpaints service. You will need to create an account on tradingpaints and then upload the paint TGA file I sent you to tradingpaints. Then anyone racing with you would need to have the latest MP4 paints from tradingpaints to SEE your car paints. Yeah - it seems a bit ridiculous that iRacing is using external paint sharing service but that was the way it has been for a while now.

Title: Re: iRacing Paint thread
Post by: racecar73 on Thu Jun, 27 @ 06:15 PM (pacific)
I am not a designer or a computer guy by any means, but I think with a little practice I can put out some nice skins.

If you are familiar with layers and how they work, it is a similar concept. I learned how to use layers running Autocad (that's how a made the logo) so it was a pretty easy concept to me.

If you know how to use paint (that's how I colored them) and have lots of time to color pixels then you got it.

I already took an image of a logo I pulled from the web (simple copy and paste) and put it on a white McLaren. I actually put a hood and side logos on it pretty quickly.

So with a little practice it should all come together. I have not even scratched the surface of the tools in the program, I am just starting to mess around in there.

And when I consider the ability to use all the programs together correctly (Autocad, Paint, etc) I am envisioning some beautiful paints. 8)

Gimp is like Photoshop in most ways. The interface is not as pretty but it is good in some ways and worse in others. Neither are the easiest program to get started with, but not bad. However VERY deep, so you can learn it at a surface level and do a lot but there is so, so much you can learn and do with it. In my opinion it is pretty amazing software.

The biggest issue I had getting started was getting on a paintable layer.

When you open the template files you are not on a paintable layer, so it took me a few to figure that out.
